Surrounded by trees
This minimal house with a natural stone facade is designed for a single family seeking harmony with nature. Surrounded by mature trees and located on a long, narrow plot, the home responds directly to its landscape.
Architects Laurynas Avyžius and Justina Čivinskaitė crafted a design that embraces simplicity, function, and natural beauty. The house sits parallel to the street, following the form of the site. This orientation not only makes the most of the available space but also protects the existing trees on the plot.
The exterior combines natural stone, warm-toned wood, and crisp white plaster. These materials create a calm, timeless aesthetic while blending with the surroundings. The stone cladding adds texture and permanence, while wood softens the visual impact. In contrast, the white plaster provides a clean, minimal finish.
Inside, the layout supports easy, everyday living. The plan is linear and clear, allowing natural light to flow through the rooms. Shared spaces—such as the living area, dining room, and kitchen—are open yet cozy.
The long, horizontal shape of the house mirrors the dimensions of the land, allowing each room to connect visually with the outdoors. Large windows frame views of the trees, creating a strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. In addition, the simplicity of the structure enhances the natural textures and colors found throughout the site.
This project proves that thoughtful design can adapt to a site without overpowering it. By working with the land, not against it, this modern family house stands as a subtle, respectful, and beautifully functional place to live.
