DevBridge Headquarters Interior
From Barracks to Innovation Hub
The DevBridge headquarters in the Šančiai district of Kaunas emerged through the adaptive reuse of a former military barracks. Initially designed by G. Natkevičius and Partners, the project evolved with a second phase: crafting a vibrant visual identity for the workspace. The goal was to reflect the company’s programming heritage and bring energy to the newly established industrial-style interiors.
Programming Icons as a Narrative
Working closely with the client, the design team developed a concept rooted in the history of computing and tech innovation. Influential figures like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, and others became thematic anchors for the interior identity. Their portraits—crafted using optical illusion techniques—are visible only from specific viewpoints within meeting rooms, adding a layer of interactive storytelling.
Meanwhile, Skype chat rooms were renamed to honor key contributions of tech figures—such as Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) and Satoshi Nakamoto (Blockchain). These names, rendered in IBM Plex Mono, evoke early DOS-era computer systems and reinforce the project’s thematic cohesion.
Floors as Thematic Zones
Each of the building’s four floors explores a distinct concept tied to programming culture and science:
-
The Matrix floor replicates the digital rain and iconic visual code from the film, immersing occupants in a cyberpunk atmosphere.
-
The Portal floor draws inspiration from the puzzle game Portal, with visual “portals” in the ceiling connecting to a symbolic view of the DevBridge office in Chicago.
-
The Quantum floor explores the abstract realm of physics and energy units. Here, a dynamic visual grid was broken and reshaped into an expressive composition, executed by artist Tadas Vincaitis – Plūgas.
Branding and Statement Elements
At the heart of the interior sits a bold brand installation. Behind the reception desk, the DevBridge logo appears against a bare brick wall—both raw and refined. A sculptural, two-dimensional cloud made from old computer motherboards, painted grey, hovers above. The illuminated “d” and “b” letters clearly represent the company’s identity while creating a memorable first impression for guests.
Summary
Through layers of storytelling, clever visual metaphors, and playful references to programming culture, the DevBridge interior transforms an industrial shell into a functional and inspiring tech space. It stands as a creative fusion of architecture, branding, and narrative design, reflective of the company’s innovative spirit.
